Our Mission

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion committee supports the needs of students, parents, teachers and administrators to foster a school community where every intersection of diversity is uniquely acknowledged and celebrated each and every day — in what our students learn and how they interact with one another; and how our teachers and parents engage with black, brown and other minority teachers. We strive to create an inclusive culture where listening and acceptance creates the truest sense of belonging; where we always challenge the paradigms and perceived notions of equality and equity; where we speak up for and against any forms and acts of racism; where we manifest the deepest and most profound new reality that all of our differences, whether ethnicity, race, gender preference, sexual orientation, physical ability, age, religious beliefs, language preference or socio-economic status are a reflection of the beautiful tapestry of the BNS community. As a connected community nurturing our future curious, lifelong learners, we never tire of our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

DEI Resources and Tools

The DEI Committee has created a Resources and Tools page for our community to support important conversations around race. This is just the beginning of an evolving and annotated list of resources - crowdsourced by our community and curated and vetted by our school leaders, teachers and experts on any given subject.

DEI Fundraising Principles

The BNS DEI Committee has developed a set of guiding principles and questions in order to help the PTA and BNS community engage in fundraising in a way that aligns with our values of social and economic justice. An overview of the principles and related questions and prompts can be found here.
